What is the best part of working at Sobeys? The freedom to do what you do best every day. I had the opportunity to build up loss prevention teams across Canada, from two people to 42 when I left. It's a challenge to find the right people for security and loss prevention, and I think we did and still have the right people.

What do you remember most about your first day on the job? My first day was at the opening of the first store in Cambridge, ON. I quickly realized that the most important job that day was having buggies ready for customers, and that comfortable shoes are important!

What is your proudest moment as a Sobeys employee? My proudest moments are having been being offered the manager's position after a year and a half in the bakery. Also receiving a Sobeys Touch Award in 1995 and several Value Champions thereafter.
What advice would you give to a new Sobeys employee? I would ask them to stay true to themselves, be hard workers and dedicated.
Who do you most admire? I most admire my mother. She raised eight children and worked hard all of her life.

What is your proudest moment as a Sobeys employee? I was involved with the Children's Wish Foundation, and I challenged my team to raise $11,000, the average cost of a Wish. In a very short amount of time we were able to do it and grant a wish.
What advice would you give to a new Sobeys employee? Don't take anything for granted. We can get in the habit of saying "mop the floor" to a new employee, but I try to show them how, because they may not have done it before.

My first day as a seafood clerk brings back two memories: The department manager, Burt White, came around often to make sure I was always busy. What is your proudest moment as a Sobeys employee? When we received Best Store Award for our district, and for receiving the Best Engagement score in Canada. Our customers are like family.
What is your favourite memory from the past 25 years? Completing a renovation in 1997, which modernized the store.

Who do you most admire? My parents who instilled good values and a strong work ethic. We lived above the convenience store that they opened after immigrating to Canada in 1963, later expanding to an IGA franchise, and then Sobeys.

What is your proudest moment as a Sobeys employee? In 2015, my young daughter Madison got very sick and was diagnosed with a life-threatening condition. The support my family and I received from the New Brunswick Sobeys family has been overwhelming and heartwarming. To say I am part of this family gives me great pride.

What is the best part of working at Sobeys? Everything, I guess! The staff are really close, we can have a laugh. We still get work done, but there's no good going to work if you can't have a bit of fun in the process.
What is your proudest moment as a Sobeys employee? Recently a woman slipped in the mall parking lot so we went out to tend to her and get her ready to go in the ambulance. A few days later, I got a call from a vice president thanking me for helping the customer.

Because our customers are mostly Orthodox Jews, our food is about 90 per cent kosher and we have rabbis on staff to advise on procedures and preparing food.

What do you remember most about your first day on the job? Way too many guys in white shirts! I moved from a position with Lawtons to Sobeys in 1999. So I had this new job and I thought Geez, I should buy some new shirts.' So I bought five or six different colour shirts. I went into my first meeting and everybody in the room was wearing a white shirt. About halfway through the vice president asked if I noticed anything different and told me about the policy about having to wear white shirts. The policy has changed now but I still don't own many white shirts!
What is the best part of working at Sobeys? I am very thankful to Sobeys for the opportunity they have given me to grow as a person and to work with so many great people across the country.
What is your proudest moment as a Sobeys employee? Tough call! It was either winning a Value Champion award or it could be winning the Presenter of the Year award.

What do you remember most about your first day on the job? Building relationships with customers. For 15 years I have been working with the Korean business group; they've taught me their customs and some of their language.

What is your proudest moment as a Sobeys employee? I work with about 200 wholesale customers in New Brunswick, all of the needs from new store set-ups, orders, anything that can improve customer relationships, and I enjoy that.
What advice would you give to a new Sobeys employee? Be open-minded and accept change positively, as the food business is constantly changing.

What is the best part of working at Sobeys? Being part of the FreshCo. launch, and watching it grow and succeed as it moves out west.
What is your proudest moment as a Sobeys employee? It was the best-kept secret when the Price Chopper banner changed to the national FreshCo. banner in 2010. We had eight stores to prepare in 10 days; there were a lot of hours but it was very exciting.
What advice would you give to a new Sobeys employee? Everyone is willing to help, don't be afraid to ask questions and make mistakes, you learn from your mistakes. Be yourself and use your resources.

What is the best part of working at Sobeys? The payroll provider for the corporate and franchise stores went bankrupt; my colleagues and I worked together to quickly organize it in one day so that everybody got paid on time.
What is your favourite memory from the past 25 years? When I went on medical leave suddenly, my co-workers were supportive and stepped up while I was off.

What do you remember most about your first day on the job? The thing I remember the most about my first day at Sobeys is how welcoming everyone was. They made me feel like a part of the team on Day 1.
What is the best part of working at Sobeys? The best part of working at Sobeys is being a part of the team. I enjoy coming to work everyday.
What is your proudest moment as a Sobeys employee? Every time that Sobeys steps up to help someone in need it makes me proud to be a part of the company.
Who do you most admire? The person I admire most is my mom. She has not always had an easy life but she took things in stride and always overcame any obstacles. Quitting is not an option and she has instilled that in me.

What is the best part of working at Sobeys? The people you get to meet, staff and customers. I know a lot of customers by name, and we support the Lions Club and local events. I've been with Sobeys for 25 years full time, but 34 years total; it has gone by quickly.
What is your proudest moment as a Sobeys employee? The most recent was in May 2018 celebrating with my team being No. 1 in Atlantic Canada for sales growth.
What advice would you give to a new Sobeys employee? Learn as much as you can about all departments, and always take care of the customer, everything else can wait.

What do you remember most about your first day on the job? I was 16 years old, first job and I was scared out of my mind. I loaded grocery bags into the trunks of cars and there was a big learning curve especially when there was a line up of cars. I had many mixups. I just call them an opportunity to learn how to do something differently.

Who do you most admire? My mom. She came from Lebanon and raised six children; she still cares for my eldest sister, who is mentally challenged. She also took care of my ill father with love and patience for seven years.

But I don't really think about the size of the business, I think about serving the customer every day. And then the next store came and the next one came and before you know it, you have a large company.

What is the best part of working at Sobeys? The best part is when I see someone receive a piece of rehab equipment that has a positive impact on their daily independence.
What is your proudest moment as a Sobeys employee? When a client, who I had known since he was five years old, was able to get his driver's licence. We got him a vehicle with hand controls, spinner knobs and other adaptations so that he could drive. We were all so proud and emotional, and the excitement on his face was priceless.
What advice would you give to a new Sobeys employee? Customer service is the key to success. Make eye contact and say hello, that means a lot to a lot of people.

What do you remember most about your first day on the job? I was 16 and so nervous that customers would ask me something I didn't know, and how would I ever remember the produce codes?
What is the best part of working at Sobeys? The best part is the friendships I have made and interacting with the staff and customers; they become like a second family.
What is your proudest moment as a Sobeys employee? The proudest moment is when I became store manager.
What is your favourite memory from the past 25 years? The students from the Vera Perlin Centre, who are across from the store and visit often, came and sang ?Stars of Christmas.? It was a moment I will never forget, my heart was full.
What advice would you give to a new Sobeys employee? Enjoy every day, and embrace all the knowledge you can get. Ask questions, everybody is willing to help.

What do you remember most about your first day on the job? It was a 14-hour day because the employee who was supposed to work the shift after me didn't come to work.
What is the best part of working at Sobeys? I love training the new employees, and I'm proud when they do well at our store or in other locations.
What is your proudest moment as a Sobeys employee? I was asked to be a coach in the HMR department to teach store managers and assistant managers about the new concept. It's a lot of fun.
What advice would you give to a new Sobeys employee? Treat customers the way you would like to be treated -- like family. Look at each customer as they come in the door, as if they were your parents, grandparents, neighbours and friends.
