What is your proudest moment as a Sobeys employee? I was involved with the Children's Wish Foundation, and I challenged my team to raise $11,000, the average cost of a Wish. In a very short amount of time we were able to do it and grant a wish.
What advice would you give to a new Sobeys employee? Don't take anything for granted. We can get in the habit of saying "mop the floor" to a new employee, but I try to show them how, because they may not have done it before.

What is the best part of working at Sobeys? I love that I get to do a lot of different things, bringing together operations, merchandising, even HR, and tying it all together. There are new challenges every day, which makes it interesting.

What do you remember most about your first day on the job? It was so busy. There was no scanning then, so everything that you keyed in was by price and there were a lot of codes to memorize.
What is your proudest moment as a Sobeys employee? When I applied for and was given the position as a specialist on the road after working throughout the years at store level. That was my goal.
What is your favourite memory from the past 25 years? A lot of fun, friends and many celebrations. I've made a lot of friends over the years, and I met my husband at Sobeys.
What advice would you give to a new Sobeys employee? Every customer is a family member.
Who do you most admire? My daughter. She took a bus to school every day, and she worked a full-time job at the same time. It amazed me that she worked that hard to get to her goal.

What do you remember most about your first day on the job? My first day was a night shift and I was very sleepy. They wanted me to fill out paperwork after that but I couldn't even do it. I was too tired.

What do you remember most about your first day on the job? The best part is the relationships I have cultivated with my co-workers and customers. Because our customers are mostly Orthodox Jews, our food is about 90 per cent kosher and we have rabbis on staff to advise on procedures and preparing food.
What is the best part of working at Sobeys? I'm proud when our student employees come back to visit after they move on.
What is your proudest moment as a Sobeys employee? I developed a better understanding of Jewish traditions with my first Hanukkah; the food is a little different, but we're all the same.

What do you remember most about your first day on the job? Way too many guys in white shirts! I moved from a position with Lawtons to Sobeys in 1999. So I had this new job and I thought Geez, I should buy some new shirts.' So I bought five or six different colour shirts. I went into my first meeting and everybody in the room was wearing a white shirt. About halfway through the vice president asked if I noticed anything different and told me about the policy about having to wear white shirts. The policy has changed now but I still don't own many white shirts!
What is the best part of working at Sobeys? I am very thankful to Sobeys for the opportunity they have given me to grow as a person and to work with so many great people across the country.
What is your proudest moment as a Sobeys employee? Tough call! It was either winning a Value Champion award or it could be winning the Presenter of the Year award.
If you could live anywhere in the world, where would it be? I'm a Newfoundlander, so it would have to be on another island.

What do you remember most about your first day on the job? I was new to Halifax and I was very afraid of the people around here! But everyone was really friendly and I felt as though I had been part of the team for years.

What is the best part of working at Sobeys? The payroll provider for the corporate and franchise stores went bankrupt; my colleagues and I worked together to quickly organize it in one day so that everybody got paid on time.
What is your favourite memory from the past 25 years? When I went on medical leave suddenly, my co-workers were supportive and stepped up while I was off.

What is your favourite memory from the past 25 years? Meeting one of my closest friends. Unfortunately after working together for 15 years, she died of cancer.
What advice would you give to a new Sobeys employee? Be kind, be compassionate.
Who do you most admire? My children. I've watched them grow and fight some tough battles. When you almost lose a child, it makes you more aware of how precious every day is.

Who do you most admire? My mom. She came from Lebanon and raised six children; she still cares for my eldest sister, who is mentally challenged. She also took care of my ill father with love and patience for seven years.

What is your proudest moment as a Sobeys employee? The Grand Falls warehouse was rebuilt after a fire, and it was a good feeling to walk into that brand new, modern building.
What is your favourite memory from the past 25 years? We had a fundraiser for a co-worker who was travelling to Quebec to see his sick daughter. It was a touching moment when we handed him that envelope; it made me realize that it's more than just work, he's family when you work together so long.

What do you remember most about your first day on the job? I started when I was 14 at Aberdeen Mall, New Glasgow, with store manager Fred Heighton. The biggest thing I remember was just trying not to mess up the orders!
What is the best part of working at Sobeys? I like developing my employees and ultimately seeing them be successful.
What is your proudest moment as a Sobeys employee? My proudest Sobeys moment was in 1998 when we went national. But I don't really think about the size of the business, I think about serving the customer every day. When the family set out, it wasn't to have a national company, it was to have a well-merchandised grocery store that will serve the local community. And then the next store came and the next one came and before you know it, you have a large company.

What do you remember most about your first day on the job? It was a bit intimidating; I moved from working with a staff of just six to a team of more than 55 employees.
What is the best part of working at Sobeys? The best part is when I see someone receive a piece of rehab equipment that has a positive impact on their daily independence.
What is your proudest moment as a Sobeys employee? When a client, who I had known since he was five years old, was able to get his driver's licence. We got him a vehicle with hand controls, spinner knobs and other adaptations so that he could drive. We were all so proud and emotional, and the excitement on his face was priceless.
What advice would you give to a new Sobeys employee? Customer service is the key to success. Make eye contact and say hello, that means a lot to a lot of people.

What do you remember most about your first day on the job? My new desk had all the folders piled up on the desk with work that was waiting for me. It was a challenge at first!
What is your proudest moment as a Sobeys employee? My proudest moments are mainly our successful negotiations. When we are working on major projects at Sobeys, some of them are a lot tougher than others. And when you successfully complete a major project like that, thats a good feeling. I always love to achieve the targets or the goals the company have set, sometimes working as part of a team and, at times, leading the charge. When that was successfully completed, that always felt great.

What is the best part of working at Sobeys? The Data Centre move to the Tahoe office was a proud moment. We ran dark fibre underneath the airport and transmitted data across, and everything went without a hitch. It was really exciting.

When you show people what you can do, and you're eager to do more, you'll be given more opportunities. This will grow your knowledge base and make you a more valuable person/asset on your team.

What is your proudest moment as a Sobeys employee? I'm proud of receiving a Value Champion Award; I was nominated three times and won it once. I won it after seeing on Facebook that a family had their groceries stolen at Christmastime. I thought, who steals groceries at Christmastime, and I took them down enough for a turkey dinner. It was the least I could do.

What do you remember most about your first day on the job? I was 16 and so nervous that customers would ask me something I didn't know, and how would I ever remember the produce codes?
What is the best part of working at Sobeys? The best part is the friendships I have made and interacting with the staff and customers; they become like a second family.
What is your proudest moment as a Sobeys employee? The proudest moment is when I became store manager.
What is your favourite memory from the past 25 years? The students from the Vera Perlin Centre, who are across from the store and visit often, came and sang ?Stars of Christmas.? It was a moment I will never forget, my heart was full.
What advice would you give to a new Sobeys employee? Enjoy every day, and embrace all the knowledge you can get. Ask questions, everybody is willing to help.

What do you remember most about your first day on the job? It was a 14-hour day because the employee who was supposed to work the shift after me didn't come to work.
What is the best part of working at Sobeys? I love training the new employees, and I'm proud when they do well at our store or in other locations.
What is your proudest moment as a Sobeys employee? I was asked to be a coach in the HMR department to teach store managers and assistant managers about the new concept. It's a lot of fun.
What advice would you give to a new Sobeys employee? Treat customers the way you would like to be treated -- like family. Look at each customer as they come in the door, as if they were your parents, grandparents, neighbours and friends.

What is the best part of working at Sobeys? The people, both customers and fellow staff. My wife works here too; this is our extended family.
What is your proudest moment as a Sobeys employee? Any time I was selected for a special project or promotion. Our store has been a pilot multiple times, and they know we can get the job done right.
